why touch-screen voting systems

ok, so I was reminded of this while reading about some election woes in Florida: “why are specifically touchscreen voting machines so important?”

Now, I can understand the need/desire to deploy many candidates to machines rapidly, but why rely on an input method that is well known to be wonky? Why not put some nice big clicky BUTTONS next to the screens on the edges, so there’s no confusion about what you’re pressing.

Oh, right, because if they did that, there would be less self-doubt in where your grimy finger ended up and your vote turned out Republican.
